The tensile strength of SAE1080 galvanized rectangular pipe ranges from 770 MPa (hot rolled) to 965 MPa (normalised), while the yield strength is between 425 MPa (hot rolled) and 586 MPa (normalised).

In addition, its elongation and section shrinkage range from 10 per cent (hot rolled) to 24.7 per cent (annealed) and 25 per cent (hot rolled) to 45 per cent (annealed), respectively, showing good plasticity and toughness.

The heat treatment process for SAE 1080 galvanized rectangular steel pipe includes normalising, annealing, quenching and tempering, where the quenching temperature is usually at 815°C (1500°F), and either water or oil can be used as the quenching medium, with hardnesses up to HRC 65 after quenching.
