Trump says he will raise steel and aluminum tariffs to 50%

2025-06-05
Trump said at a rally at the American Steel Company on the afternoon of May 30 that the US steel import tariff will be raised from the current 25% to 50% to protect the domestic steel industry. He said that foreign companies can still cope with the current 25% steel tariff to some extent, but these companies will find it difficult to cope after the tariff is raised to 50%.

Trump also posted on social media that starting June 4, the import tariffs on steel and aluminum will be raised from 25% to 50%.

The United States has imposed a 25% tariff on all imported steel and aluminum since March 12. The policy has attracted criticism and retaliation from trading partners such as Canada and the European Union.

According to data from the U.S. International Trade Commission, the United States imported steel and aluminum products worth $147.3 billion in 2024. Data shows that Canada, Mexico and other countries are its main source countries.
Steel products include: hot-rolled steel coil, cold-rolled STEEL COIL, galvanized steel coil, wire rods, color-coated coil, steel pipe, steel sections, etc.

Aluminum products include: aluminum coil, aluminum plate, aluminum ingot, aluminum foil, etc.
