Steel social inventory in early May 2025

Overall inventory situation

In early May, the social inventory of five major types of steel in 21 cities was 8.5 million tons, a decrease of 350,000 tons from the previous month, a decrease of 4.0%; an increase of 1.91 million tons from the beGInning of the year, an increase of 29.0%; a decrease of 3.05 million tons from the same period last year, a decrease of 26.4%.

Inventory overview by product

In early May, among the social inventories of the five major steel varieties, cold-rolled STEEL COIL increased slightly month-on-month, medium and thick plates remained unchanged, and other varieties decreased to varying degrees, among which rebar had the largest reduction and decline; year-on-year, the social inventories of the five major varieties all decreased to varying degrees.

The inventory of hot-rolled steel coil was 1.86 million tons, a decrease of 40,000 tons from the same period last month, a decrease of 2.1% month-on-month;

The inventory of cold-rolled steel coil was 1.24 million tons, an increase of 10,000 tons from the same period last month, an increase of 0.8% month-on-month;

The inventory of wire rod was 730,000 tons, a decrease of 10,000 tons from the same period last month, a decrease of 1.4% month-on-month;

The inventory of rebar was 3.82 million tons, a decrease of 310,000 tons from the same period last month, a decrease of 7.5% month-on-month.
