Social inventories of steel in mid-February

In mid-February, five major varieties of steel social inventory in 21 cities was 12.12 million tonnes, an increase of 2.56 million tonnes, up 26.8%, a sharp rise in inventories; 4.83 million tonnes more than at the beginning of this year, an increase of 66.3%; 1.6 million tonnes less than the same period in 2023, a decline of 11.7%.

Inventories rose in all seven regions on a year-over-year basis

In mid-February, divided into regions, seven major regional inventories rose, as follows:

East China inventory rose 630,000 tonnes, up 25.3%, as the largest incremental region;

South China increased by 590,000 tonnes, up 28.1%;

Northwest China increased 390,000 tonnes, up 48.1%, as the largest increase in the region;

Northeast China increased by 220,000 tonnes, up 40.7%;

North China increased by 220,000 tonnes, up 16.1%;

Central China increased by 220,000 tonnes, up 23.9%;

Southwest China increased by 290,000 tonnes, up 21.8%.

Rebar is the largest incremental and growth varieties

In mid-February, the five major varieties of steel social inventories have risen, of which rebar for the increment and the largest increase in varieties.

Hot rolled steel coil inventory was 2.01 million tonnes, an increase of 380,000 tonnes, up 23.3%, inventory rose for five consecutive decades; an increase of 570,000 tonnes over the beginning of this year, an increase of 39.6%; a decrease of 260,000 tonnes over the same period last year, a decrease of 11.5%.

Cold rolled steel coil stocks stood at 1.41 million tonnes, an increase of 270,000 tonnes or 23.7% over the previous year, a sharp rise in stocks; an increase of 380,000 tonnes or 36.9% over the beginning of this year; and a decrease of 90,000 tonnes or 6.0% over the same period last year.

Inventory of medium and thick plate was 1.31 million tonnes, an increase of 150,000 tonnes, up 12.9%, the inventory rise continued to expand; an increase of 370,000 tonnes, up 39.4% over the beginning of this year; an increase of 50,000 tonnes, up 4.0% over the same period last year.

Wire rod inventory of 1.47 million tonnes, an increase of 270,000 tonnes, up 22.5%, inventory rose for seven consecutive decades; then the beginning of this year, an increase of 640,000 tonnes, up 77.1%; then the same period last year, a decrease of 310,000 tonnes, down 17.4%.

Rebar inventory was 5.92 million tonnes, an increase of 1.49 million tonnes, up 33.6%, the inventory rose for 7 consecutive decades, and the rate of increase continued to expand; than the beginning of this year, an increase of 2.87 million tonnes, up 94.1%; than the same period last year, a decrease of 0.99 million tonnes, a decrease of 14.3%.
