What is the difference between zinc-aluminium-magnesium and galvanized?

Characteristics of zinc-aluminium-magnesium

Zinc-aluminium-magnesium steel sheet in coil is a new anti-corrosion process of hot-dip galvanising an aluminium alloy layer on the surface of a steel plate, in which zinc, aluminium and magnesium are the main components. Compared to the traditional galvanising process, zinc-aluminium-magnesium has the following characteristics:

1. More environmentally friendly: the materials used in magnesium-aluminum-zinc-coated steel sheets are aluminium and magnesium, which can be degraded very quickly in the environment and will not pollute the natural environment.

2. Better corrosion resistance: Because the zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating contains aluminium and magnesium, its corrosion resistance is much better than that of the pure zinc coating. The zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating can remain intact for a long time in a corrosive environment.

3. Better painting performance: zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating has a flat surface and better adhesion, which can provide a better basis for subsequent spraying and other processes.

Characteristics of galvanisation

Galvanising is the application of a layer of zinc to the surface of steel to prevent it from rusting and to protect it. It is generally divided into two types: electro-galvanised and hot-dip galvanised, where hot-dip galvanising generally has better corrosion resistance.

1. Good corrosion protection: The galvanised layer protects the steel against corrosion and rust.

2. Low cost: The galvanising process has a lower cost compared with other anti-corrosion processes.

3. Mature technology: galvanising is a mature process with many years of history of use, mature, stable and reliable technology.

Difference between zinc-aluminium-magnesium and galvanised

In terms of corrosion resistance, zinc-aluminium-magnesium metal steel plate is superior to galvanized metal plate. The zinc-aluminium-magnesium coating contains not only zinc but also aluminium and magnesium, which has better corrosion resistance. Zinc plating is only a layer of pure zinc on the steel surface, its corrosion resistance is not as good as zinc-aluminium-magnesium.

From an environmental point of view, zinc-aluminium-magnesium is more environmentally friendly. The materials used in zinc-aluminium-magnesium decompose quickly and have a much lower impact on the environment. The zinc used in the galvanising process, on the other hand, consumes large amounts of energy and resources and has a much greater negative impact on the environment.

Zinc aluminium magnesium is also better in terms of painting performance. It has a flatter surface than galvanising and has better adhesion, providing a better basis for subsequent processes such as spraying.

In summary, zinc-aluminium-magnesium is superior to zinc plating, with better corrosion resistance, better painting performance and more environmentally friendly features. However, it should also be noted that because zinc-aluminium-magnesium is a new process, compared with the traditional galvanising process, its current production costs are still high.
